The Australian Fisheries Management Authority’s (AFMA) National Compliance Operations Policy aims to effectively deter illegal fishing Commonwealth fisheries and the Australian Fishing Zone.

Inmarsat has advised the Australian Fisheries Management Authority (AFMA) that a new Network Access Fee will be applied to existing and new owners of Inmarsat C terminals registered in Inmarsat’s Electronic Service Activation System (ESAS).

Last month, Australian Fisheries Management Authority (AFMA) fisheries officers based in Torres Strait investigated four fishing vessels suspected of gear and licencing breaches under the Torres Strait Fisheries ACT.

The Beche-de-mer Harvest Strategy (BDM HS) was adopted by the PZJA at their meeting on 19 November 2019. A harvest strategy is a framework for making evidence-based, precautionary and transparent decisions about the amount of fish that can be caught in a fishing season.

The Protected Zone Joint Authority (PZJA) has considered the views of stakeholders and agreed to implement a Tropical Rock Lobster (TRL) Fishery Management Plan, from 1 December 2018, to coincide with the commencement of the Torres Strait Fisheries Amendment (Tropical Rock Lobster) Management Instrument 2018.
