The Protected Zone Joint Authority (PZJA) has agreed to release the draft Guidelines for authorising cross-endorsement in areas of Australian jurisdiction of the Torres Strait Protected Zone (the draft Guidelines) for public comment.
On 4 October 2022, the PZJA agreed to grant a permit for scientific purposes to CSIRO to undertake an annual Tropical Rock Lobster fishery independent population survey (commonly referred to as ‘the pre-season survey’) which is scheduled to take place from 8–22 November 2022 across the region. At its 11 February 2022 meeting the Protected Zone Joint Authority (PZJA) decided that the Total Allowable Catches (TAC) for the Torres Strait Finfish Fishery (TSFF) will be 75 tonnes for Spanish mackerel and 135 tonnes for coral trout. The PZJA decision was in line with advice from the Torres Strait Finfish Resource Assessment Group and Torres Strait Finfish Working Group.
The Australian Fisheries Management Authority (AFMA), on behalf of the Protected Zone Joint Authority (PZJA), has extended the application period for Chairs, Scientific Members and Industry members for the various PZJA consultative forums. Applications can now be submitted until close of business Wednesday 11th May.
